was established by the governors of Platt Primary School over 20 years ago and is
run as an independent, non-profit making organisation. It is situated in the grounds of the school,
sharing some of the facilities e.g. for play, P.E. and music, and maintaining very close links with the
Reception class into which most children transfer.
Staff – We have well-qualified, experienced staff dedicated to caring for your child’s needs. We
also have volunteers and students from time-to-time. All these adults are CRB checked. The staff
regularly attend courses for their professional development and this includes first aid training and
The day-to-day running of the Nursery is by the Nursery Supervisor and/or her deputies. The Nursery
is managed by a Committee, comprising the Nursery Supervisor, governors and staff from Platt
School and elected parent representatives.
We operate a ‘key worker’ system. A key worker has special responsibility for a group of children
and will ensure that the needs of each child are recognised. In particular, when children first start in
the Nursery, the key worker will help them to settle in and liaise with their parents about the child’s
welfare and progress.
Parents – We encourage you to visit the Nursery with your child during the weeks before an
admission is planned.
We value the input of parents and you are invited to play an active role in this stage of your child’s
development. We operate an ‘open door’ policy and welcome parents to come and help (once their
child has settled in). We keep you informed through your child’s key person, regular newsletters, our
notice board and this website.
